YOUR MUMS FACE!
another quick post of the universally recognized north face logo.
i was trying to embody the 2 commenly known insults of “your mum” and “your face” into one irrefutable ultimate insult.
i “want” IKEA
i recently visited ikea to buy “some” stuff for a house with friends and i don’t know if its just me or if when someone is going to ikea everyone wants to be in on the trip with no clear idea of what they want too buy. i know that its typical window shopping and compulsive buying brought on by marketing tactics and consumerist urges and is prevalent is all aspects of retail. but it seems to be quite typical of the way ikea is branded and marketed. i rarely see adverts for there products and although im aware that they must perpetually redesign there lines and create products in there strong brand image, however im always aware that i can go and get something to suit my need be it from clean and subtle to loud and extroverted. this universal knowing and “want” brought me to try and design the following spoof-logo’s/advertisements in the ikea brand image.
after repetedly observing my friend compulsive pruchaces and cryes of “ohh i want one of them” or “do you think that would go hear or there” when the origonal trip was to buy a rug” only to find that 3 hours later and 2 diam cakes later the car was full of funkey glowing and shiny items.
i set out simply to just say that we all want or think we need these products, and tried to suggest that its synonymous with the obviously successful ikea idea.
not sure if this was a bit too personal of an observation but might as well do something with the output.
bauhause-macintosh inspired sewing table.
i was recently commissioned to design and build a sewing table to fit underneath a staircase. this posed many problems for me such as available space and Assembly, dominating a high traffic area visually, and creating function without limiting working space. my initial intention was to try and leave the whole space visually intact but to break up functionally, leaving it an open an airy space but supplying working area and storage space without feeling like you are working in a cupboard. i added a splash of chalky but vibrant color to bring energy without tiering the eyes to try and dispel any dingy dark feelings of working in such a space.
please excuse the crappy photos, my camera ran out and i had too use my phone, ill upload some better ones in the new year.
Ware am i ?
Been having a bit of a play with google latitude on my mobile and thought it might be fun to put it on my blog, seeing as i travel about quite frequently and forget to visit people.
it should automaticaly update ware i am when ever i move about.
Tote test bags.
Just a quick update to say that I’ve been playing with some new photo emulsion for screen printing. I might add, rather unsuccessfully.
A lot has been learnt in the process though and awesome bags will be following as soon as I get back from Festinho.
Also, I think I need a better squeegee as I think I have reached the limits of what you can do with a window squeegee in screen printing.
Here are a few piccys of my test pieces some of them are quite nice I think. (If you’re at Festinho then you might be luckey enough to get your hands on one for very little money so bring your pennys)
Mouse trampoline
Needs no explanation…. i got board and i built a trampoline for my pet house mouse ,Clive.

Newblogportfoliotype personalwebspace kindofthingy?
Who knows eh, and with a title like that i wouldn’t expect you to.
well its like this, iv had this site and domain for some time and have yet to put anything on it, despite my sincerest intentions. I’m sorry to admit that fact but sometimes im not the most organised of people, espechaly when there is only me to gain from my actions. that isn’t to say that I’m lazy nor by any stretch uninspired, i would even go so far as to say i was prolific in my “thinking”. so after much thinking and a recent sorting out of my life and ambitions iv decided its high time i stopped trying to follow paths laid out for me or be bated anymore by seductive employment opportunities for career growth in areas i no longer want to spend my days toiling in, and to focus on the blood sweat and tears of the last 4 years, the result of an unfamiliar educational format, radical personal change and a journey into a place of thinking that is so instinctive for me that my whole life changed when i found out that not only do they teach this “product design” but its a professional job.
so whats it all about? I’m sure this universal, personally relative, philosophically challenging and scientifically ambiguous question has baffled the greatest minds of our existence for eons, with no solid answer, fact or conclusive theory. but that’s all about to change, i have the answers….. at the time of writing this post, its about 16:00 hours, and its about time i ate some dinner, its also about to be summer and its about me.
In this weblogamtingy that I’m embarking on i hope to solve a few problems in my life in one foul soup.
Firstly, I’m forever trying to show people my work, my projects and my inspirations, but always end up working away on my own with no ones criticisms but my own and no support in those self tangling moments of over-saturated thinking, but that of the markbot. (the markbot is my analytical raw thinking logical left hemispheric counterpart) so my intention is to be able to show my friends what im up too what I’m working on and what I’m stuck with in the hopes to get some of my stagnating projects back off the ground, and possible get in a bit of unintended selfless promotion.
Secondly, i have friends all over the world and when even i meet up with them i find myself reciting off the same stock sale’s pitch format of what iv been up too what I’m doing now and its just not fair on people ears as i ramble more in my flamboyant over thought and eclectic descriptions to what iv been up to. so i guess its also my intention to document and inform the people who i care about as to what I’m up to so conversation may resume from a informed point.
And last but not least, its always been my intention to have a portfolio and CV up on the web for employers and potential clients to look and see if they like what i do and who i am, as iv never been one to hide my intentions or true nature (one of the reasons i suspect iv not been as successful in my career as those other selfless promoting professional types) but i feel it will lead me on the right path to happiness and job satisfaction.
So without further adieu, I hereby open this blog thingy and look forward to collecting all my works and projects over the coming weeks.
PS. there will be subscriptions thingies and a fancy layout to come but like everything in life you got to start somewhere.
